5th Sterilization Symposium at the Healthcare Innovation Center
The 5th Sterilization Symposium was held on December 6, 2025, at CIRACET’s Healthcare Innovation Center (HIC) in Ponce, Puerto Rico, providing specialized education on hospital sterilization processes to healthcare professionals across the island.
The symposium welcomed 85 participants representing multiple healthcare facilities in Puerto Rico, including professionals from Nursing, Surgical Technology, Epidemiology, Quality Improvement, Operating Rooms, and Central Sterile Departments. The event successfully met its educational objectives through focused presentations and open professional exchange.
Key objectives addressed during the symposium included proper adherence to manufacturer instructions for use (IFU) for robotic instrumentation, identification of common reprocessing errors, updates to ANSI/AAMI TIR109 guidelines for external transport of reusable medical devices, prevention of wet packs following sterilization, early identification of staff burnout and intervention strategies, and the importance of CBSPD certification for professional development.
In addition to the educational sessions, supplier companies specializing in surgical equipment, materials, and instrumentation were present, showcasing solutions and services relevant to sterile processing operations.
The event was further recognized with a proclamation from the Municipality of Ponce, declaring the participants distinguished visitors. Opening remarks were delivered by CIRACET 's CEO, Eng. Oscar Misla, welcoming attendees to the Healthcare Innovation Center. CIRACET also acknowledges the essential logistical support provided by its personnel, which contributed to the success of the symposium.
